I'm always worried when applying for jobs, that I don't possess the right skills or qualifications. That still small voice of self-doubt whispers from the back of the mind "You just aren't good enough! Why do you bother?" But then my girlfriend encourages me to try anyway with this expression:
下手な鉄砲も数撃ちゃ当たる。
下手 - heta - clumsy, poor, unskilled, awkward...
鉄砲 - teppou - gun
数 - kazu - a large number, many
撃ちゃ - ucha - from 撃つ (utsu) - fire, shoot
当たる - ataru - hit the mark
Even a poor shot will hit the mark if he fires off enough bullets.
In other words, no matter how crap you think you are, if you persist you will eventually achieve something.
