It's really cold...

A cold air mass has blown in from Siberia and has turned Kansai into one big refrigerator.

Cold air mass = 寒気団 - kankidan

寒　－　KAN 　samu・i = cold
気　－　KI / KE = gas, atmosphere, spirit, mind...
団　－　DAN / TON = body, group

寒さをしのぐ防寒着といえば何？　－　さむさをしのぐぼうかんちゃくといえばなに？

しのぐ　＝　bear, endure, survive, keep (the cold) out...
防寒着　＝　winter clothes

As for winter clothes, what keeps out the cold?

Indian Summer #2

Another sunny autumn day today and this word has been added to my vocabulary:

秋晴れ - akibare

I couldn't find it in my Japanese/English dictionary so I looked it up in the 広辞苑 (koujien) Japanese dictionary instead. It said:

秋の、すっかり晴れ渡った天気。
あきの、すっかりはれわたったてんき。

秋　- aki - autumn
すっかり　- sukkari - completely
晴れ渡る - harewataru - to clear up, to be cloudless
天気 - tenki - weather

秋晴れ　＝　clear autumnal weather
