Here's an expression that came up the other night when we were talking about how as we grow older we inevitably turn into our parents (scary but true):
血は争えない。ー chi ha arasoenai ー literally: you can't fight blood.
血 - KETSU - chi = blood
争 - SOU - araso・u = contend, vie, fight, dispute, argue...
Most dictionaries translate this as "Blood will tell". Here's an example from SPACEALC (very good for examples is SPACEALC):
血は争えないね。彼の短気なところは父親譲りだ。
Blood will tell. He inherited a short temper from his father. LINK
短気 - tanki - short temper
父親 - chichi oya - father
譲り - yuzuri - inheritance
